Ear Training & Music Theory Classes
Ear Training 101 (plus theory!)
You don’t have to read a book to learn music theory and ear training. It is easier and more fun to learn if we experience it. I combine elements of: Dalcroze Eurythmics (movement that helps internalize rhythm); Kodaly (pre-notation method to develop strong aural skills; and Orff (developing musical creativity through movement and improvisation and percussion instruments) to create a rich musical experience. And if you still want to read that theory book, I won’t stop you. After taking this class it will make more sense! This class is ideal for beginners or those who would like to refresh their skills. Meets in-person or online Wednesdays from 7:15pm-8:15pm CST from July 16th-August 20th. $160/session. REGISTER HERE
Harmony By Number
In this class we focus strictly on how harmonies are written by simply looking at it by the numbers (scale degrees). These numbers and chords combine those scale degrees in a variety of ways. While there is more nuance to writing harmonies than just working by the numbers, it is an excellent starting point and actually, in many cases it is exactly right and all you had to do was count. Some experience with theory is helpful but not necessary. Meets in-person or online Wednesdays from 6pm-7pm CST from July 16th-August 20th. $160/session. REGISTER HERE
Ongoing Ear Training & Music Theory (intermediate)
If you would like to continue your journey, the Ongoing Ear Training class will keep your skills fresh and you’ll learn even more about theory and how to apply it to the songs you write, perform, or listen to. Classes are 30-minutes (twice a week) and meet online Tuesdays at 6:30pm CST and Sundays at 11:30am CST. $12/class. Attend live or watch later. REGISTER HERE
